Ethiopia Flower Power 💐
After sampling, we did 3 test roasts of this coffee on the Probat 12 Kilo.
First Roast:
These beans are incredibly tiny, so we lowered the charge temp a little bit in order to prevent from tipping (a roasting defect).
This roast ended at 9:15 and had a post first crack development time of 0:30 seconds.
This roast had incredibly jammy texture and sweetness on the Bentwood though on the (unimodal burr) Forte it showed signs of roastiness.
Second Roast:
We slightly increased heat and aimed for a faster roast. Funny enough, this roast had the same weight loss as roast #1.
This roast ended at 8:44 and had a post first crack development time of 0:28 seconds.
This roast didn’t have any roastiness from the Forte grinder, it showcased enhanced florals along with sweet honey flavors.
Third Roast:
We went even lighter. We increased the charge temp and had a lot of heat at first, then started to back off at the last quarter of the roast.
The roast ended at 8:32 and had a post first crack development time of around 25 seconds (because we lowered the heat, it was hard to hear and we went into this development less aggessively).
This roast tasted like honey (underdeveloped) which we really liked, but it didn’t have any complexity of acidity and other flavors.
We chose the 2nd roast as the roast profile for this coffee! Here’s what it looks like!
