100 Days of Coffee Challenge

shine.png

We will be reviewing a new coffee every single week, brewing it differently with various brew devices and recipes throughout that week. Inspired by the limitless bounds of coffee extraction, no two cups will be the same!

We think home brewing needs more diversification, with more than just a brew recipe and a page of professionally-shot instagram photos. Lets talk about that same coffee for a longer period of time. Lets learn about the roaster and why they fell in love with that particular coffee and decided to purchase it. We will present that coffee in depth, and share what we find every day while experimenting outside of our comfort zone. We will have a week (7 posts) to learn about each coffee.

You’ll learn about coffee in all its forms. From varietals to origins, processing methods to farms, competition lots to producers, coffee storage to flavor peeks, water profiles to burr geometry. This is a 100-day blog meant for the curious, to discover new things, and not for someone hoping to find a one-size-fits-all brew method. Because there isn’t one.

What We Will Not Be Talking About

No Brewing Recipes - There is simply too much out there. It is uninspiring to us and will only be useful if you had the same grinder, with the same burr wear, the same temperature inside, using the same water, same coffee, etc. It will only lead to frustration in our opinion. Instead, we will be focusing on how flavor attributes of the coffee change and how different brewing styles affect your cup.

No In-Depth Gear Reviews - Every piece of gear has a purpose and a positive aspect in coffee brewing. We will not be going down the rabbit hole of, “this brewer is better for ___”. Instead, we will be talking about the coffees flavor attributes stemming from the brewers we use. Maybe some recommendations here and there, but this isn’t the prime focus.

What We Hope You Will Learn

Rare, exciting, and unique coffees you can purchase and brew at home!

How to improve your coffee brewing skills at home with 100 different brewing techniques and dozens of brewing devices.

How to buy a bag, and know what to expect before brewing.

Know more Incredible roasters from across the globe.

Have a basic understanding of the flavor profiles from different coffee producing countries and regions.

Have a basic understanding about the different coffee varieties and some of their known flavor characteristics (imagine how hard it would be if wine buyers didn’t use varieties like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, etc., to define wine! It’s just as important in coffee!).

How to find your desired coffee flavors from a specific country, and fermentation processes (EX: If you want a fruit bomb, go with a naturally processed coffee from Ethiopia. If you want a sweet but simple chocolate and nutty cup, try a washed coffee from Brazil).

At the end of this journey, we hope to inspire others to brew beautiful cups of coffee and discover what makes this seed of a fruit so unique.
